Help NDASA build a network of experts
Substance Abuse Professionals (SAPs) play a key role in supporting workplace safety by ensuring that employees with drug and alcohol violations only return to work when they are ready.
As part of NDASA’s mission to support safe and drug-free workplaces by fostering industry excellence through training and education, the association seeks to create a network of SAPs who are taking their practices to the next level by participating in advanced training.

SAP 2.0 & SAP Business 101
In conjunction with NDASA’s 2026 annual conference, the association is pleased to offer four days of intensive training for Substance Abuse Professionals.
Developed by expert trainer and veteran Substance Abuse Professional, David Perlman, BA, NCAC II, SUDP, CC, EAP, these sessions offer a unique learning opportunity for experienced Substance Abuse Professionals (SAPs) to fulfill Department of Transportation training requirements and take their business to the next level.
SAP 2.0
Monday, April 27 & Tuesday, April 28, 2026
This is a specialized two-day training program for seasoned Substance Abuse Professionals (three or more years of experience). It is NOT meant to prepare SAPs for their initial SAP examination but is designed to offer advanced training to experienced SAPs to satisfy their tri-annual CEU requirement.
The course will help SAPs:
- Expand their knowledge of best practices
- Be up to date on the latest breaking updates regarding Department of Transportation rules and compliance
- Skillfully handle the minutiae of daily duties
- Stand out among competitors as a highly credible resource for DOT compliance.
SAP Business 101
Wednesday, April 29 & Thursday, April 30
So, you have a brand-new SAP Certificate hanging on your wall, now what?
Initial SAP training is all about passing a test. The how-to isn’t covered. How do you go about securing clients, growing your practice and being the standout SAP in your area? Learn about what reports look like, other than a list from the regulation, how to work with Designated Employer Representatives (DERs) and Medical Review Officers (MROs), what should actually go into Initial and Follow-up Evaluations, marketing your practice and how to maximize your efficiency and time management.
If your goal is to complete 100 or more SAP cases a year, plan on attending this one-of-a-kind session.

David Perlman, BA, NCACII, SUDP, CC. has been in private practice in Washington State for 21 years and routinely completes 150 DOT SAP cases and over 100 additional Non-DOT cases annually.
“As a private practice provider, I particularly appreciated how Mr. Perlman shared his business acumen in developing his practice. Future SAPs would greatly benefit from emulating his approach. I have gained a wealth of material that will help improve and develop my SAP business. I could go on and on about how fantastic this course was.” David J. Fletcher MD, MPH, President, CEO, Chief Medical Director
